Brunel is proud to share its name and passion for engineering with legendary industrial revolution era engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
Known for his ambition, inventive thinking and ability to turn bold ideas into reality, IKB rose to prominence for his work on the Thames Tunnel, the world’s first underwater tunnel constructed with a pioneering tunnelling shield. Brunel went on to design the Great Western Railway, including the iconic Box Tunnel and Maidenhead Bridge structures. He also reshaped maritime engineering through groundbreaking ships including the SS Great Western, SS Great Britain and the colossal SS Great Eastern. Each set new standards in scale, materials and propulsion.
Isambard's legacy endures through his transformative contributions to civil, structural and marine engineering. His visionary approach, technical mastery and relentless pursuit of progress cement him as one of history’s greatest engineers.
